Moulds are used daily in many aspects, so which kind of steel is used for moulds? The steel suppliers will answer this question, the mold steel will be the best choice.

1.We must first know some basic common sense of mold.

Classified according to the length of service life: first level: more than 1 million times; second level: 500,000 to 1 million times; third level: 300,000 to 500,000 times; fourth level: 100,000 to 300,000 times; fifth level : Less than 100,000 times; The first and second level molds require mold steel that can be heat treated with a hardness of about 50HRC, otherwise it will be easier to wear, so the choice of mold steel must have good heat treatment performance and high hardness. There are good cutting performance, of course, there are other considerations. According to the mold purpose, it is divided into:

A. Injection mold

Commonly used materials are P20, 718, SKD61. Among them, the life of P20 molds is 100,000 to 200,000 molds, the life of 718 is 200,000 to 500,000 molds, and SKD61 is 500,000 to 1 million molds. The life of the mold is not absolute, it depends on what material is produced, the daily operation of the user, whether the internal structure of the mold is reasonable, the working environment and the daily maintenance situation.

B. Die casting mold

Commonly used materials be provided from steel suppliers are H13, SKD61, and 8407. Among them, the life span of molds made of H13 is between 80,000 and 100,000 molds, the life of SKD61 is between 100,000 and 150,000 molds, and the life of 8407 is between 150,000 and 200,000 molds. Die casting mold mainly mainly depends on the daily operation of the user, the internal structure of the mold is reasonable, the working environment and the daily maintenance.

2. Die steel can be roughly divided into three categories. The commonly used die steel materials are mainly these three types of die steel.

A. Cold Work Die Steel

Cold work die steel from steel suppliers is mainly used to manufacture molds for pressing workpieces in cold conditions. Such as: cold blanking die, cold stamping die, cold drawing die, imprinting die, cold extrusion die, thread pressing die and powder pressing die, etc. The range of cold work die steel is very wide, from all kinds of carbon tool steel, alloy tool steel, high speed tool steel to powder high speed tool steel and powder high alloy die steel. Cold work die steel is vacuum degassed refined steel, with pure internal quality, good machinability, significantly improved cutting, good hardenability, air-cooled hardening is not easy to crack, excellent wear resistance, good toughness, and usable Used as a punching die for stainless steel and high hardness materials.

B. Hot Work Die Steel

Hot work die steel is mainly used to manufacture molds for pressure processing of workpieces under high temperature conditions. Such as: hot forging die, hot extrusion die, die casting die, hot upsetting die, etc. Commonly used hot work die steels are: alloy die steels with medium and high carbon content added Cr, W, Mo, V and other alloy elements; hot work die steels for special requirements, sometimes made of high alloy austenitic heat resistant die steel .

C. Plastic Mold Steel

Due to the many varieties of plastics, the requirements for plastic products are also very different, and various performance requirements are put forward for the materials used to make plasti cmould steel . Therefore, many industrially developed countries have formed a wide range of plastic mold steel series. Including carbon structural steel, carburized plastic mold steel, pre-hardened plastic mold steel, age hardening plastic mold steel, corrosion-resistant plastic mold steel, easy-cutting plastic mold steel, integral hardened plastic mold steel, martensite Aging steel and plastic mold steel for mirror polishing, etc.
