Steel Properties                                                                                                                                

Ni-hot work tool steel.Standard high performance steel for forging dies. Good toughness, deep hardening properties and compressive strength. Improved high temperature wear resistance, as well as retention of hardness, compared with “PW-15”.Good tempering resistance and dimension stability.Tools can be water or oil cooled.

Applications             

Die of all kinds for hammer and press forging of steel; tools for extrusion pressed, such as press stems(up to medium specific pressures), mandrel holders, support; shear blades; hot stamping dies for aluminum alloys; piercing tools for steel tube production.

Heat Treatment      

Annealing:              Temperature:740-760

                       Holding time: 6-8h; Slow furnace cooling

Hardness after annealing: Max.250HB

Stress relieving:         Temperature:appr.630

                       Holding time: 1-2h; Slow cooling

 

Hardening:             Temperature:880-900

                      Quenching: Forced air, 850-900,

Quenching:oil or Polymer(interrupt at appr.150);Or vacuum hardening .

Hardness obtainable:    appr.56HRC(oil or polymer quenching)60mm.

Tempering:            Temperature:  400-700

Nitriding:              Possible within limits.

Preheating before use:  200-350-absolutely necessary.
